30 Days of Gratitude

I recall a time when all I wanted was for life to become easier. I kept hoping the gambling harm would magically disappear, the anxiety would finally leave me alone, and the shame would stop dragging me back into the parts of myself I was trying so hard to escape. I truly believed peace would arrive the moment everything around me simply did what I asked and stopped.
It did not.
But something else happened.
I got stronger.
Stronger than the gambling that used to run my life.
Stronger than the fear that kept me hiding.
Stronger than the shame that told me I was too far gone.
The ironic part is that this strength did not show up in some big dramatic turning point. It came quietly. It built itself in tiny moments. In the little decisions that felt impossible at the time. In every honest conversation I forced myself to have. In every “not today” whispered through tears. In every moment I sat with myself when running away felt easier.
Strength grew each time I reached out instead of shutting down.
It grew when I told the truth, even when it scared me.
It grew every morning I woke up and realized I made it through another day without gambling.
It grew even in the moments I doubted everything about myself.
The wild thing is that most of us do not realize our own strength as it grows. We think we are failing. We feel overwhelmed and exhausted. We see all the ways we are still struggling and completely miss all the ways we are healing and building.
But now, looking back, I can see it.
Those moments I thought were proof that I was falling apart were actually proof that I was putting myself back together, better than before.
Today, I am grateful for the strength I didn’t know I had.
The strength that carried me through chaos.
The strength that helped me heal parts of myself I thought were permanently broken.
The strength that lets me show up now with honesty and compassion for others who are still hurting.
And if you are reading this and you do not feel strong yet, please hear me with your whole heart:
You are stronger than you think.
Your strength is already forming.
Even if all you did today was feel your feelings or stop yourself from spiraling or simply breathe through another wave of uncertainty.
Strength does not always look powerful.
Sometimes it looks like quietly deciding to try again tomorrow.
And that is enough.
