30 days of Gratitude

There was a time when the word no may as well have been in a foreign language.
I was fluent in people-pleasing, over-committing, and pretending I was fine while quietly falling apart inside.

If someone needed something, I was already halfway there saying “Of course!”
Not because I had time or capacity
but because I believed being needed meant being worthy.
I thought saying yes made me lovable.
I thought shrinking myself was noble.

Spoiler alert: it was not noble.
It was exhausting.
And it was slowly breaking me.

**Knock knock.
**
Who’s there?**
Gambling.
**
Gambling who?**
Gambling addiction. Your new bestie. Hope you like chaos.**

Recovery handed me a truth I did not want at first:
Every yes that betrayed myself pulled me further away from who I am meant to be.
Every time I ignored my gut to keep the peace, I lost a little more of my own.

Now I treat “no” like a “yes” to myself.
No is not rejection.
No is a boundary.
No is clarity.
No is self-respect.
And honestly, no is peace in yoga pants.

When I say no today, I am choosing my healing.
I am choosing recovery.
I am choosing my mental health.
I am choosing the version of me I fought like hell to become.

I am grateful for boundaries that protect my energy like a velvet rope at a NKOTB concert.
I am grateful for the voice inside me that I used to silence and a healthier me.

Recovery taught me this:
Protecting my peace is not selfish.
It is sacred.
It is survival.
It is love, the real kind.
